Getting licensed from Birmingham
Most of our Birmingham students take the live class at our main school, 601 Vestavia Pkwy in Vestavia Hills. It’s on US-31 south of downtown, on the second floor of the Barbour Building, with parking in the rear lot. Classes meet Tuesdays and Wednesdays for eight weeks, with a daytime or an evening option, so you can keep working while you study.
Live on the east side of the metro? Our partner locations in Leeds and Moody teach the same 60-hour course. If you’d rather not drive at all, join a live class on Zoom or take the course online at your own pace.
Classes are taught by Mark Yarbrough, who has taught real estate in Alabama for more than 20 years, and his team. When you finish, you’ll take the Alabama salesperson exam and join a brokerage to activate your license. Our exam prep and one-day cram course are built for that exam.

After you’re licensed in Birmingham
Once you pass the state exam, you choose a brokerage to hold your license. It becomes active when an Alabama broker sponsors you, so it’s worth talking to a few Birmingham-area firms while you’re still in class.
Many agents here also join the Birmingham Association of REALTORS®, which partners with the Greater Alabama MLS, the largest multiple listing service in the state. Membership is optional, but it’s how you get MLS access and can call yourself a REALTOR®. New members take the association’s orientation course within 90 days of joining.
Your first licensing deadline is the 30-hour post-license course: finish it within six months of activating your license (twelve months if it stays inactive). After that, you renew every two years with 15 hours of continuing education. Both are available online through our site.

How much does real estate school cost?
The 60-hour pre-license course is $499.99 in person at our Vestavia Hills school (materials included), $449.99 live on Zoom plus the required $65 textbook, or $299.00 online at your own pace.
How long does the course take?
The pre-license course is 60 hours. Live classes run for eight weeks and meet Tuesdays and Wednesdays, daytime 10:30am – 2:00pm or evening 6:00pm – 9:30pm. Online, you go at your own pace.
What do I need to get an Alabama real estate license?
You must be at least 19 with a high school diploma or equivalent, complete the 60-hour pre-license course, and pass the Alabama salesperson exam. The Alabama Real Estate Commission issues your license, which becomes active once a broker sponsors you.
Is the Zoom class the same as the in-person class?
It is the same 60-hour course. Zoom classes are taught live, so you can ask questions in real time from home.
What happens after I finish the course?
You schedule the Alabama salesperson exam with Pearson VUE. Our exam prep packages and one-day cram course are built for that exam. After you are licensed, you complete a 30-hour post-license course within six months of activating your license (twelve months if it stays inactive). We offer it online.
